164 Although he graduated as a painter, Gábor Városi has always been attracted to the plasticity of material. It is no coincidence that he dedicated a role to spatiality already in his early paintings. Here, we should not only think of the illusionistic spatiality of the things depicted, but also of the materiality of the pigment applied to the canvas. The colourful space represented in the plane is also a relief-like matrix. As a direct consequence of this, Városi suddenly began to research intensively in the direction of spatial modelling. The opportunity arose for him to experience the nature of glass as a creative medium by getting closer to the technology of glass production. Not an easy undertaking to embark on. But by now we know that he is not looking for the easy way, either as a creator or in any other field. “The higher you climb, the harder you fall”, he used to say, but if you stay up there, the view from the heights is a magnificent sight of the world’s unknown, unexplored places.
