Gábor Városi - Stories, Artworks, Artistic periods

184 Compared to the previous rustic glass works, the artist “adjusts the optics” considerably. In these works, Városi discovers something else and in a different way. He breathes life into the cold, dead material. Static, rigid layers of glass rise above the viewer as organic, abstract or even figurative forms. These sculptures are not autonomous. They are works of applied art that are an integral part of the buildings the creator envisions. The thousands of layers of glass pressed together would be impressive in themselves, but Városi is not content with merely that. These graceful monsters move. Tremendous mechanics come into operation. And they light up at night. Their light changes in intensity and colour as a spectator approaches. With the help of smart software, the sculptures take on a new look in response to the recipient. Kinetic Glass Sculptures Monumentality, Movement and Light A new chapter in Városi’s experiments with glass, on radically different foundations, is the era of gigantic objects made of several layers of glass.
