274 Unburied Emotions Dead, Living, Survivors Loved Ones 2020 160 x 160 cm encaustic and mixed media on plexiglass 2020. Life was rushing, up to the point of COVID-19, when everything suddenly stopped, time freezes – business interrupted, no women to meet, no champagne-soaked gatherings to enjoy. Many of us are suddenly left with our unresolved issues. The weight of your past catches up with you, like an overloaded semi crashing into the line of cars stopping suddenly on the motorway. No matter how carefully you have sheltered yourself, physics does its job, and the drifting trailer will crush everything, the luxury limousine just as much as the old van. Surrounded by the wreckage of the past, there are surprisingly clear images. The death of parents, a sibling, past lovers, children’s birth, and growing up. All that we have lost forever, and all that remains after we are gone. Faces, gazes, boyhood-, and grown-up feelings. Mom’s Sunday soup, Mira’s gaze, Viki and Villő’s laughter. Laci in the dressing room, still strong, discussing the Mayan pyramids, Eszter stepping out of the bathroom naked, Dad stroking the dog in his lap in farewell… Images are reborn; disturbing visions are scattered on the floor. The painter has awakened from his slumber and dips his brush into the pain of death and birth. He pours survivors’ guilt onto the canvas with broad, bold movements.
